Our Story
SAGA Paper symbolizes the passing of the torch to the next generation. It simultaneously combines the surnames of the preset Operator and the past Founder of the branch; while carrying its meaning as a continued story to a historic tale.
Our story begins in Seoul in the 70’s when our late Founder; growing up in a newly free South Korea, wished to create more jobs and access to a brighter, more sustainable future. Thus, he created a company to work with paper as the main medium. This previous company was built as a way to pay homage to the artisanal skills that blossomed out of the rising nation to supply to Japan.
It grew to eventually manufacture and export an array of all things paper.
Products ranged from a dynamic range of paper products starting from varieties of office envelopes, disposable paper aprons, paper chopstick cover to traditional paper decorations and many more.
It was during frequent visits to the different Southeast Asian countries in the late 80’s that he started frequenting to Manila, Philippines and understood a gap in the market as well as a need to supply more jobs and continue the education of a more sustainable alternatives to plastic. Thus, in 1991 the initial version of “SAGA” was born.
The Company quickly grew and successfully maintained an undisputed reputation in the Japanese export market for its quality of service, ability to be methodical and swift execution of delivery; for more than 20 years. The Company ran a methodical assembly line through automatic machines from printing, to packaging; all in one process in the factors; enabling a more time effective delivery and went on to employ more workers.
In 2011, the company expanded reach into the local market and rose to become a competing player even amongst the larger conglomerates. With its consistent delivery of high-quality products recognized, it started supplying to key industry players like National Bookstore; GMA Kapuso Foundation; Manila Ocean’s Park; Pansit ng Taga Malabon; AB Pharma; Rose Pharmacy; 8 Scents; Alvarez Bakeshop; Grand Champ Packaging; Toper Gen Merchandise, Jadd Cedric; Oliver Plastic, Twisted Candy; Cavite Packaging, Jowei Trading, Vimo’s Store and many more.
It was up until 2017 that the company was running smoothly with a firm foundation established with its buyers and a burgeoning reputation in the market. In a series of unfortunate events, in the next two years the company took two heavy hits. In September 2017, the company faced the tremendous lost of its founder and Chairman and in October of 2018, an external tragedy in the Company occurred. A fire that took place in the factory; burned through all the imported raw materials; finished goods and many machineries, leaving no way to continue the export business operations, leading to the closure of the export division of the company.
Through the support of existing clients, partners and employees and in an effort to keep the commitment it has to its clients and team, in 2019 the company reopened as a completely new entity to service the local market. Lined with completely new machines, products and a line devoted to being as environmentally-positive as possible, “SAGA Paper Products Inc” was born. This marked a new pivotal chapter of the company with an inherent goal to support the local market in the Philippines and operate with sustainable impact in food packaging and an assorted array of office paper products.
